How To Get A P60 Document
Quick Answer: If you know how much you were paid you can calculate and create a P60 document using the button above.
Need to get your P60 but not sure where to start? Whether you’re looking for this year’s document or one from several years ago, here are all your options — from fastest to most involved.
Option 1 — check your payroll portal (fastest)
If your employer uses a digital payroll system — Workday, BambooHR, Sage HR, or similar — your P60 is almost certainly available to download right now. Log in to your employee portal and look under Documents, Pay History, or Year End. This takes about two minutes and requires no contact with HR.
Option 2 — ask your employer
If you don’t have portal access, contact your payroll or HR department and ask for your P60 for the relevant tax year. Employers are legally required to issue P60s by 31 May and must keep PAYE records for at least 3 years. Most will provide a duplicate without any issue.
Option 3 — use HMRC’s Personal Tax Account
HMRC can’t issue a P60 itself — but they can provide a statement of earnings showing the same gross pay and tax figures. Sign in at gov.uk/personal-tax-account to see your employment history and tax paid by year. This is accepted by most lenders and landlords as an alternative to a P60.
Option 4 — create a replacement P60 online
If you have your earnings figures — from HMRC or your employer — OS Payroll can produce a professional replacement P60 on genuine HMRC-approved payroll stationery. Free sample before you pay. Covers the current tax year and over 20 previous years.

Check your P60 figures are correct
Once you have your P60, use the free P60 Calculator to verify the income tax and NI figures are right for your salary and tax code.
When does your employer have to give you a P60?
Employers must issue P60s by 31 May following the end of the tax year on 5 April. If you haven’t received yours by then, contact your payroll department. If they fail to provide it, you can report the issue to HMRC on 0300 200 3300.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get my P60 from HMRC?
HMRC don’t issue P60s — they come from your employer. HMRC can provide a statement of earnings showing the same information via your Personal Tax Account at gov.uk. This is accepted by most lenders as an alternative.
Can I get a P60 for previous years?
Yes — contact your employer for years they have on record (legally required to keep 3 years minimum). HMRC hold employment history going back further. OS Payroll can produce replacement documents for any year going back over 20 years.
How long does it take to get a P60?
From a payroll portal: instant. From your employer: usually same day to one week. From HMRC: instant online via Personal Tax Account. From OS Payroll: PDF within 30 minutes, printed within 1–3 working days.
I changed jobs — who gives me my P60?
Your current employer — the one you were working for on 5 April (year end). Your P60 will include figures from your previous employment in the year if you gave them your P45.
What if I’m self-employed?
Self-employed people don’t receive P60s. Your income is reported via Self Assessment instead. If you’re both employed and self-employed, you’ll get a P60 for the employed portion only.
