How to Get a Copy P60

How do I get a copy of my P60 is the most common question we get asked? If you have the pay information it’s simple. If all you know is that you worked at the company between dates and can’t remember how much you got paid. It’s more difficult... but not impossible.

If you lost a P60 document, HMRC expect your employer to help. If you're OK with a photocopy or download it should be quick and simple.

It can be more difficult if you need a copy from earlier years, or you want printed forms.

If the company ceased trading the tax office will send you the pay figures (but not a copy P60). But with the pay amounts you can create one online.

Computerised payroll makes it simple for employers to print or email a copy. They should be willing to help, so don’t be afraid to ask. If the company runs online payroll, copies will be available for download.

The last P60 should be straightforward. Going back to older pay years more difficult if data archived.

Employers are also unlikely to have old stationery so a basic printout is a likely outcome. The pay forms are pre-printed with a year end date and need to be on the correct copy. We’re happy to provide old forms to your company if they need help.

If the company can’t help HMRC can provide a service… sort of.

They won’t supply a copy P60 but will send you details of your earnings and deductions. It will be on headed paper from the revenue and should be fine as proof of earnings / employment. It can take up to a few weeks to arrive unfortunately.

Knowing your earnings for any given pay year is the key information. With the pay amount you can create a copy P60 online. You can get previous years on the correct stationery, and it’s quick. But you pay for the service. Whereas the employer & HMRC should be free.

If you wish to get a copy P60 online and you know how much you earned, it’s quite simple. You can enter all data or we can calculate from the total pay.

Submit your details and we send a sample copy by email. If you’re happy there’s a link to pay and we print and post your P60. You receive an original document usually next day or shortly after.

You can create as many samples as you wish. You only pay for what you need.

If you wish to buy the price is £28.00 for email and printed documents. Or £14.00 if you only need an email PDF copy.

How do I get P60 from previous employer?

Even if you no longer work for the company they should still help. Call or send a polite email asking for a copy. Tell them HMRC suggested you get in touch (which they do on the .gov website). Be persistent if they don’t respond. Give it 7 days, then ask HMRC for the amounts if not received.Do you have my P60 details?

Do you have my P60 details?

No, we can calculate the P60 from the information you enter but we can’t verify with your employer or tax office. The data is private but you can get the information from them which we can use to calculate.

Can I view my P60 online?

If your company runs e-payroll you should have a secure login to view and download pay documents. You can’t view your P60 online at the government website. You can create a copy P60 online here and view it as a PDF file.

Should I report a lost P60?

It is important to keep safe but unlikely to be of any use to anyone else. A P60 is often used as proof of earnings but never on its own. They would need other identity documents too. Such as a passport. Driving licence. Utility bill. Bank card, etc. In isolation the P60 is of little value. It contains your address so if found you can get it back.

Do I need printed forms?

In recent years the rules have relaxed. A black and white printout from the payroll system is acceptable. And lots of companies do that.
